The miracle spreads before your eyes, blocking words. Seventeen huge trees spring from its roof, while the waters of a headstone gush from its foundations. It is celebrated on September 11. Thousands of pilgrims visit the chapel all year round to worship and admire this unique complex, an inexplicable miracle of nature that dominates this peaceful landscape.
A visit to Agia Theodora is a very good day trip from Athens.<\/p>

The story of Saint Theodora:<\/strong><\/p>

During Byzantium, each village had an autonomous character. It had its own social, administrative and military authority. Each family in the village was required to provide a man for its army and if this was not possible, it had to pay money to hire a mercenary to represent it.
The young Theodora was the eldest girl of a poor and very religious family with an elderly and sick father and lived in a village in the Peloponnese, Vasta, just outside Megalopolis. The amount of money required to pay a mercenary was too large for her family’s means and her father was unable to take part in battle. So Theodora, at the age of 17, decided to play the man and participate in the army of her village herself.
She soon found herself fighting in battles with great courage and, as was logical, was promoted in rank. Her strength, but also her modesty, made her popular in the army. A young girl could not resist the charm of the young soldier and so she fell in love with him. Theodora did not want to betray her secret because that would expose her entire family.
As much as Theodora tried to convince the young girl by telling her that she was dedicated to God, the young girl wanted the young man she saw before her, the beautiful and courageous soldier she had met. Theodora’s constant refusal led the young girl to take revenge. She slept with another soldier with whom she became pregnant and went to the Commander of the army stating that Theodora, that is, the soldier with whom the girl had fallen in love, was the one who got her pregnant and that he should marry her.
Theodora’s refusal, who did not want to reveal her secret, in this particular marriage, allowed nothing but her condemnation to death due to dishonoring the young girl.
And so it happened. The young soldier until the last moment did not want to reveal his secret and thus put his father in a difficult position. He was led outside the village and executed. As he was dying, he said: “Lord, let my years become trees and my blood water them.” and suddenly, a stream formed with rushing water.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
